Duel Of The F8s: Special Edition
This is a submission for Octojam 10, and is me returning to my OJ6 submission idea and actually finishing the project to my satisfaction.
This is a silly fan game to explore a possible future that might offer salvation to many, but, really it's just something that amuses me.
Controls:
- 2 / 2 : HIGH stance
- W / 5 : MID stance
- S / 8 : LOW stance
- 1 / 1 : Skips the introduction (ONLY ON THE TITLE SCREEN)
Goal:
Use helpful 'messages' from the future to successfully defend yourself, until you can set them off balance and change the course of history.
Gameplay:
First, you must defend yourself, by adopting the correct stance to deflect the oncoming blows. A series of markers shows the pattern before hand, but you can also react to oncoming red lines.
Secondly, when all 3 markers flash, you will be able to counter attack. The markers will flash 4 times as a warning, and then 4 more times in sync with your attacks. Avoid attacking in the same place twice in a row by varying your stance between your 4 hits.
The bar along the top of the screen shows the momentum of the fight. Failing to defend yourself, or attacking in the same place repeatedly, will cause you to lose momentum. Successful blocks and attacks will increase it.
If it falls all the way to maximum red, you will be vulnerable to your opponent's most deadly moves.
While the bar is green, and momentum is in your favour, your enemy is vulnerable, and, the last of the 4 attack markers will include a green target. Hitting this target will yield more momentum, and will grant you additional attack sequences, as the fight progresses.
In order to progress the fight, you must fill the momentum up to the current maximum, and successfully exploit your enemy's vulnerability by hitting this green marker first 1, then 2 and finally 3 times in a row.
Also: there is a secret hard mode if you push Z on the title screen, and then press 1. It sets your opponent to maximum power, removes the majority of delays, and accelerates attacks. It's pretty good though.
